Automated identification and mapping of geological folds in cross sections

Abstract Cross sections carry information on the spatial distribution of rock strata and development geological structures, it is an important data source for three-dimensional (3D) modeling. However, interpretation mapping structures in by means manual are inefficient costly, performance varies greatly with experts’ ability experience. The objective this article to develop automatic recognition method folds cross sections. This mainly includes identifying based stratigraphic sequence characteristics (symmetrical repetitive), classifying fold types geometric attributes (interval scheduling, strike, section morphology), optimizing superposition principle area conservation principle, constructing polygon features folds.
